Salt & Electrolytes OVERSTIMS

Salt & Electrolytes are electrolyte capsules designed to compensate for mineral salt losses during prolonged exercise and/or in hot weather. Its specific formula contains 4 electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) and vitamin B6.

What are electrolytes?

Practising an endurance or long-duration sport (over 2 hours), particularly in very hot weather, may require a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Your body not only loses water when it sweats, it also loses mineral salts known as "electrolytes", which include sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium.

These mineral salts circulate in the blood and have as their common denominator neuromuscular excitability, the property of muscles and nerves to respond to stimuli.

What role do electrolytes play in sport?

Electrolytes are essential to the body because they play a role in a large number of metabolic reactions.

• Sodium and potassium contribute to the water balance between the intra- and extra-cellular environment. During exercise, the sodium/potassium pump located in the muscle cells draws water into your cells, helping you to stay better hydrated.

• Calcium contributes to healthy muscle function: this mineral salt is the link between muscular excitation and contraction.

• Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance: as 'team leader', it regulates the input and output of calcium, sodium and potassium in muscle cells.
