Hydration: essential for sportsmen and women
During sporting activity, your muscles work and need energy. Their work produces heat, which must be evacuated to regulate your body temperature.
Sweating helps to regulate your body temperature by causing a loss of fluid and electrolytes (sodium, magnesium, etc.). This mechanism encourages dehydration, with water losses varying between 0.5L and 1.5L per hour depending on the intensity of the effort and the climatic conditions.
Slight to moderate dehydration has major consequences for sportsmen and women, and can lead to: reduced energy and endurance, cramps, risk of injury and poorer recovery.
Dehydration of 2% represents a 20% drop in performance! (e.g. 1.3 litres for a person weighing 65kg).
That's why it's so important to hydrate regularly from the very first moments of exercise, providing not only water but also the nutritional elements (energy, electrolytes and vitamins) you need to maintain your performance and prevent muscular problems.
